Clifton Park Trails Successes
1988 - Plans for a Good Neighbors Trail Network were announced publically.

1993 - Town Board created a citizen's advisory committee on multi purpose pathways called the Trails Advisory Committee.
1994 - The Trails Advisory Committee presented the Town Board with a plan of multi-use pathways.

When Maxwell Drive was constructed to mitigate traffic problems on Plank Road a separate paved trail was included on the east side of the road (shown here to the right).

1995 - A paved multi-use pathway was constructed along Moe Road between Englemore Road and Acorn Avenue (shown at left).

1999 - Town Board accepted the Trails Master Plan and incorporated it by reference in the Town's revised and updated Master Plan.
As properties west of Vischer Ferry Road have been subdivided developers have been required to include an interconnected paved trail through the area.  Two miles of trail connects each of the neighborhoods and their recreational amenities as they are being constructed with the Common, the school campus to the east and the commercial area around the intersection of Vischer Ferry Road and State Route 146.   The Clifton Park Center Trail is pictured at right.

Partnerships have been forged with Union College, a local engineering firm, Boy Scouts and other organizations to complete:
- a dramatic new entrance to the Vischer Ferry Preserve including the reconstruction of a 1864 Whipple Truss Bridge
- a half mile foot trail to connect historic Erie Canal Lock 19 with other trails in the Vischer Ferry Preserve
- a foot bridge on a trail linking Kinns Road Park and Sherwood Forest across a tributary to the Dwaaskill
- a foot bridge and trail improvements to reconstruct the Tow Path Trail through the Vischer Ferry Preserve
- an agreement with a user group to maintain ski trails at Kinns Road Park during the winter season
In established neighbor hoods linking routes using residential streets have been marked to guide pedestrian and cycling traffic to their destination.

Where no other trail alternatives can be found 4 foot shoulders are being constructed along existing Town highways to facilitate bike and pedestrian traffic.
return to the County's successes
The Moe Road Trail improvement and extension to Route 146 was completed in the spring of 2002.  This connects neighborhoods along the Moe Road corridor with the Shenendehowa School Campus and with Collins Park and other recreational facilities and the commercial areas along Rt 146.  This trail was dedicated on National Trails Day 2002.

On the Drawing Board...
- Miller Road Crossing to connect new residencial areas to the west with the Clifton Park Center Trail.
- Grissom Connection to connect the Grissom Dr neighborhood to the Vischer Ferry Preserve.
- The Towpath Trail to connect neighborhoods in the southern part of Clifton Park with those in Halfmoon.

Completed in November 2001 the Dakota Trail connects the Temple Hills neighborhood to the Dwaaskill Park.  This is the first time a community has petitioned the Town of Clifton Park for a connection.  Neighborhood leaders saw the whole process through from petition to design to trail in about 18 months!  In the picture here neighborhood youth cut the ribbon during the trail dedication in October 2002.

In the late fall of 2002 a connection between the Oaks and Wishing Well neighborhoods was completed extending the Clifton Park Center Trail all the way to Grooms Road.  (A picture will be added here shortly).
In 2003 The VanPatten Trail along the southeast side of Van Patten Drive between Carleton and Ushers Roads was completed connecting neighborhoods with the commercial area of Ushers Road.
